I am a licensed therapist in the state of Wisconsin who specializes in working with adults with substance use concerns, older women's issues (45 and older), and currently I am working on my certification for complex trauma. I knew when I started in the field I wanted to work with individuals who struggled with substance use concerns. Growing up I struggled with anxiety and PTSD. I also watched as many family members ineffectively coped with their mental health with the use of alcohol. As an adult, I finally got the help I needed and experienced my own dark times.
My anxiety is no longer in control and my PTSD managed. I have grown not only has a human, but also as a therapist. I understand you don't always have control. Seeking therapy doesn't have to suck or be scary. It can be a struggle to take those initial first steps and recognize you need to reach out for help and support. Substance use and MH stigmas don't help and make you feel judged. There is no judgement here. I have worked with countless adults across a variety of settings to help them learn effective coping and grounding tools and work through what fuels their addictions. You are not alone.
